Jonathan and Cheryl Munsell moved to North Carolina so Jonathan could follow his culinary quest for restaurant ownership. The couple serves the community by volunteering at a local mission where Jonathan and his employees lend their cooking skills. Although he loves life as a "restaurant guy," Jonathan's business involves long hours and stressful situations. Major surgery last year left him unable to walk and left Cheryl in charge of both home and business. Some of the family's home projects have been left unfinished due to Jonathan's back problems, but the couple and their two boys hope the Home Mavens can serve up some décor ideas for their white walls and organizing solutions for their storage needs.
To help the family relive their trip to the Dominican Republic, Cooking Maven Deborah showed Cheryl a recipe for Sautéed Shrimp in Tropical Fruit Sauce.
Deborah and Cheryl continued the tropical theme with Dessert Plantains recipe perfect for topping off ice cream.
Home Maven Patrick helped Jonathan build a bench with room for baskets to organize toys. He also added shelves to add a decorative touch to the area between the living room and family room.
Patrick and Décor Maven Wanda helped Jonathan create spaces for the family's two boys to play with an indoor playground and a race track-themed playroom.
To finish off the racetrack theme, Wanda and Jonathan removed the closet doors and added a garage-style storage unit.
The Mavens used tips from Lowe's Healthy Home to help the Munsell family change air filters, improve indoor air quality, clean surfaces and ensure healthy drinking water.
